Kriger is puzzled about this though that smell is distracting him.   He 
thinks to himself "I wonder if my comm is broken.  I can't talk to 
anyone."   Kriger tries to ring up Montez.  If he can't reach the 
captain, then the First Officer will have to do.   Perhaps he will know 
where the Captain is.  "2 to 1, come in I have 8 marbles".
