That reminds me of an episode from the re-hashed "Outer Limits," where a mass of "dark matter" (probably Styrofoam packing peanuts) captured three starships in a pocket universe. The crew of the "alien" vessel and one of the Terran ships had died trying to escape, but their "souls" were trapped in the pocket universe. Which reminds me of a short story by Jerry Pournelle, where a CoDominium warship and some other vessels was caught by a "collapsed star" that lay along an Alderson pathway. which reminds me of yet another....
