Something like that was in a book I read, once: "My Name Is Legion" IIRC.
Can't think of the author, though.

But you didn't run off and leave it.  You used an armored glove to slap it
on.  The impact set off the charge and the glove focused it.  It was a
*small* charge, of course.  And you could still break your arm, if you
didn't know how to allow for the blowback correctly.
