If electric is out, how about pressurised air? Or clockwork?

The question is: How much power does the system need? If it's very 
little a gentleman's yacht can be powered by his house staff (poor 
devils). If it's lots and lots you have a problem.

Plants/algae, but that means power for lights. Active charcoal, perhaps.
