With the (antiquated) gear we use at work, when our radio signal travels
thru more then 1 - 2 repeater sites, you get a noticeable 1/2 - 1 second
delay. That's not enough to effect voice commo too much, however it is
causing a major rebuild of our infrastructure before we can go digital. Due
to the terrain that we operate in, we need to hit several repeaters (1
local, one area, and then the main one back to base).
This is terrestrial radio, and I am not a radio tech - I just work in the
same group.

The PC's are hired by a police force on a low-tech lightly populated planet
to help put communication satellites in orbit. This will allow the police
force to have 100% coverage of their AOR. The local criminal gangs who have
a profitable trade in illegal substances produced in the sticks object to
this, and hire their own team to.. um.. dissuade the group. :)
