Well, what are these "types"?  I found references to the series, but nothing
about the biology issues.

To be even partially compatible, they'd have to use some of the same
building blocks.  Since we know that amino acids and such form naturally, it
would seem to take quite an exceptional world to *not* provide the same
building block *we* came from.  Just my opinion, of course.
