[TML] "The Sky Raiders" trilogy

Several times I've read blurbs about how much people enjoyed playing the 3 adventures in the "Sky Raiders" series, but have heard nothing about the adventures.  I've seen parts 2 and 3 for less than $6 each, but the only copy of part 1 I've seen was obscenely priced.

Can anyone tell me a little about this series, and if it'd be worth collecting and playing?
