I suppose WD-40 or cutting it off with a grinder ($50 from Walmart)
and replacing it later were both out of the question?

This story reminds me of the time my sister went to do laundry and
discovered a snake.  It had crawled up that nice warm exhaust tube
into her nice warm dryer drum.  My brother-in-law ran to see what the
shreiking was about, then sprinted for the bedroom . . . to return
with a shotgun in hand.

At which point my sister instantly sobered and said, "Are you CRAZY?!
You're gonna shot a hole through my DRYER to kill a SNAKE?!  Go get
the damn hoe, you idiot!"

To bad my sister wasn't watching this guy fix his car . . . :P
