Capturing a few dozen square miles of mud is not a 'strategic win'.
They didn't even reach the road junctions at Arras and Amiens that
were their preliminary obectives, let alone the Channel Ports that
were the final goal.
It was kind of like the Battle of the Bulge, 1918-style, really.
