This was mainly due to the Russians denying them locomotives and  
rolling stock and their slow conversion of German locos (which ran on  
a different gauge track.)

Had the rails been the same standard, the outcome of WWII would have  
been VERY different. Guess the Romans didn't make it to Russia, huh?
