Which author was it who had a relatively recent series where Venus is
both habitable and the only really high-tech human world? David
Drake? "Igniting The Reaches" was one title, I think.
Anyway, I really liked the energy weapons in those books. They were
plasma guns; literally heavy, slow-firing (due to both capacitor and
heat issues) and with a recoil serious enough that only really big
guys could easily use them.
