An account in a story of someone doing something far less stupid 
(getting angry and waving the pistol holding hand around such that it 
pointed at the other person) resulting in (among other things) a 
broken finger from the pistol being taken away from the angry person 
rather forcefully. And then came the beating...

I suspect the author based it on a real incident or two.
