To bring this back to gaming, I am always fascinated by the PCs  
tendency to carry handguns versus long guns, even when going in harms  
way.  It is my experience that the people who pick long guns for  
their primary weapon tend to be prior service.

To me, a handgun is a temporary compromise weapon to be used while  
fighting your way to your rifle.
