It seems to have affected me later in life, as I still prefer a rifle (and
despite a love of bolt actions, I still like a lever gun).

Curiously, I find a lever gun is more natural in pointing than any assault
rifle or bolt action I've ever used.  With my 45-70, at ranges under 50
yards, I don't feel I'm actually using the sights - I'm just pointing, and
it's as natural as pointing a finger.

Chalk up a point for low tech stocks.
