Precisely.
I recently had a fender-bender involving extremely minor damage to my
pickup truck. It took the insurance company involved three weeks to
get me the settlement check . . . and their corporate headquarters is
just an hour or so down the road, in the *same* US state.
Now blow that situation up to the Imperium.
Sure. *Some* insurance company will eventually pay to fix the PC's
ship. It may be theirs or it may be that of the shipyard which last
performed maintenance on the grav drive. And they will - also
eventually - get reimbursed for the expenses they incurred as a
consequence (assuming they turn in all the proper receipts and none of
these are denied as non-essential . . .).
The only problem is . . . they may well starve to death before they
see any cash. Considering how cash-poor most PC groups are to begin
with (at least, if the GM is doing his job properly). Plenty of
motivation to take on some very *odd* odd-jobs while stuck in
beautiful scenic Sevier County, Tennessee, Aerth.
And - of course - this all assumes that the PCs didn't do something
that causes their coverage to be voided. Like - oh, I don't know -
try to fake an emergency landing in order to deliver a black market
cargo . . . and goof it up. :)
