Are you referring strictly to standard corporeal creatures?
Some may have better or worse systems in terms of redundancy, thus meaning a
very large creature may not take as many hits as you think, or a small one
may be like a terrier or a wild boar and take a lot more whacks than you
think it would otherwise and still keep fighting.
Also, energy based life forms would totally burst that theory.
And you may find life forms that are colonies of bacteria or slime or ooze
or something that are effectively impossible to kill with hand weapons
(especially projectile ones).
Generally, there is probably a proportionality between mass and hit points.
But there could be a lot of factors affecting this.
