Instead of our cents per kilowatt-hour, the cost of power is likely to
be cents per kilowatt-*month*. Or if you prefer, cents per
megawatt-hour.
A rough calculation based on GURPS Vehicles power plants (almost
certainly more expensive than fixed plants) puts it at no more than
0.03 Cr/GJ including capital amortization and reasonable opportunity
cost, expected replacement parts, enough skilled engineers to babysit
the plants 24 hours per day with generous salary, holidays and
benefits, as well as administration staff time and other overheads,
and assuming that only 1/2 the capacity is used on average. (Fuel is
negligible)
So, how much energy does it take to fill a jump capacitor for, say, a
400-dton ship making jump 3? GURPS Traveller doesn't list such a
thing.
