I was Admin in the Air Force. Which meant I was "augmented" to
Security as needed. While based in Zweibrucken Germany, I once asked
my tech sergeant trainer what I'd be doing if WWIII ever started.
He said: "Well, Airman, we'd take y'all out a couple of miles east of
the base, trailing a phone line as we went. Then we'd drop each of
y'all off a ways apart, before driving back here to the base. You'd
each dig yourselves a little foxhole and wait. After a little the
Soviet Army would show up, so you'd pick up the phone and tell us how
many tanks they got and which way they're heading."
After moment's silence, I asked: "And then what?"
He shrugged: "Well, then you'd be on your own."
