I remember reading - in "Charlie Wilson's War" - about one mujahideen
who shot down three Hinds with his DSHK machine gun. But it was a
special situation. For some reason - perhaps due to the
altitude/loaded-mass ratio - the HINDs weren't able to come in above
him (where their belly armor would have made them immune to his
rounds) but instead were forced to be on about the same level.
And I also remember reading that - while the Stingers were certainly
very effective - the real clincher was how the various weapons systems
were integrated with each other. Once this began in earnest, the HIND
pilots stayed up so high that they couldn't adequately support the
ground troops. Said ground troops began refering to them
"cosmonauts."
