Pissed off? Naw, I can generate a screed like that for all TV science 
fiction after the Twilight-Zone, it's just his opinion. And as we all 
know they are like assholes, everybody's got one.

The Main thing I liked about Firefly is that the characters aren't out 
to save the universe, they just trying to make a living. That aspect of 
the TV show tickled me pink. The movie... Well that is another subject, 
lets just say it has issues. (Like how come we need yet another "super" 
chick, I believe in strong female leads honest Zoe is great.... But.... 
Again.... Why? I have had enough of that afterschool special).

As for the western clothes/theme I agree that we didn't see any near 
enough of eastern/Asian work clothes that where indicated by the 
background to belong there. But looking at the real world western style 
wear has kinda spread world wide. Like how come we never see a rice 
paddy in any of the shows.

The other thing in it's favor was what tech that did exist look use, 
just like the real world. As with all YMMV.
