Well, as I understand it, he was asked to write it, wrote it, sent it
in . . . and got a vast, echoing silence in response.  No money,
nothing.  As I understand it, he only did this in such a manner
because he is such a fan.  So after a decent interval, he gave it away
for free - as long as he didn't sell it to anyone else this didn't
violate any implied contracts - out of sheer frustration.

But that's all just guessing, on my part.  Based on what I've heard
second and third hand.  So don't qoute me on it.

But anyway . . . since he wasn't paid, that pretty much makes it fanfic.
