Hiya gang,
As I mentioned at some point previously, I've had my old 2300 map drymounted (heat/vacuum-pressed onto a peice of glue-impregnated foamboard).
I like themore accurate 2300 map over the OTU one, Especially as I plan on doing a more Earth-centric campaign.
Anyhow, I've placed a clear heed battlemat over the thing and taped it down so the 2300 map now has a large hexgrid superimposed over it; thus making the non-gridded 2300 stars more easily put onto standard Traveller starmaps.
Anyhow, as Sol is a pretty easy nut to crack (hell, afaik, we all live nearby), I've moved on to the nearest neighbor, Alpha and Proxima Centauri system.
Accorsing to the Star List in 2300, Alpha Cebtauri A and B are a binary. A is a G2 V star (yellow), while B is a K0 V star (0range), with the K star being the brighter, Their far companion, Proxima Cantauri is like .2 LY away. and is a M5 V star (red) thats 3x brighter than the K star..
Now using the MT Ref's book to generate the system details, one of the pair gives a habitable zone at Orbit 2, and the other at Orbit 3. Proxima Centauri, on the other hand, has no habitable zone.
Mulling this information over in my hesad, I'm trying to get an idea of hgow things look if you're standing on "Foothold" (the first settled world in the Alpha Centauri sytem) kooing at its binaries. Two suns instead of our 1 of course, with the orange star is brighter.
With Proxima Centauri a bright far companion, would it actually *orbiting* the binaries like Jupiter orbits Sol, or or isiti just out there sitting on its own, in a fixed position?
Of course, any help would, as usual, be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Ken-
