"Space Vikings" has merchants.  Actually, everything that happens
between the shooting bits is Trask building a merchant empire.

Stirling's newest series - the one about the Earth without high tech -
*depends* on merchantile activities.  When last we left his
character's, they were on a quest Eastward, with a cover story about
doing market research.
