I saw the movie, which was pretty good. That motivated me to read the
book. Of course, it turns out that the movie greatly simplifies the
sequence of events. But it succeeds very well in capturing the flavor
of the character's involved.
The next time I run a covert war on an Imperial client world IMTU, the
(hedonistic Texas Congressman) Charlie Wilson will be the minor
Imperial baron at the center of it all, with (blue-collar ethnic CIA
agent) Gust Avrakotos as the IISS covert operative who's his point
man. Neither are supposed to be doing any of the things they're
actually doing. But because nobody expects them to be doing these
things, they get away with it.
Actually, Charlie and Gust remind me strongly of a pair of PCs . . .
