Oh, I remember that scene.  I just never thought of it as a 3D printer.
They pretty much hand-waved it.

True, but if you don't send a specific person, you'll have to have machines
raise the infant (maybe adult body, but brains start blank!), and teach it
what you sent it there for.  And hope it wants to do it!  :)
