Not really.  I think it's kind of elegant, myself.  It certainly saves
the Referee from having to say something like: "You can't have it
because I said so."

<shrug> It's merely another facet of collateral damage.  As someone
else already pointed out, it seems they took this idea from a series
of novels.  And it makes pretty good sense, actually.  Think of it as
a high-tech version of the "scorched earth" tactic.  :-)

Well, this *is* the Empire we're talking about here.  They're the only
ones who are supposed to be using this type of weapon.  The Empire's
"no nukes" policy has never been interpreted to apply to itself.
