Most of the ones we had at our recent "Battle of Gatlinburg"
re-enactment slept in the field. But most of their wives and kids
slept at motels in town, for at least some of the three nights. I
remember one little girl in particular, wearing a bedroll/pack almost
as big as she was, straggling along at the end of a line formed by her
mother and older siblings as they marched away from the SUV: "Mom!
This stuff is *heavy!*"
So I'm thinking it would be the wives and kids who kept the more
enthusiastic from signing everybody up for a "back to nature" colony
world.
