It's also an education issue (the mysoginist view that daughters are
worth less than a son) along with changing society trends (such as the
wife always taking the husbands last name - that's beginning to change
with some women keeping their last name). In time it'll (hopefully) sort
itself out. If not there's always the darwinian correction that occurs
with young men.
