If it's the one I saw, we are talking nuclear winter and worse
conditions a while after the eruption.
Which reminds me of a concept some folks were kicking around online a
few years back. Mayve here, maybe somewhere else.
The basic idea was that bit in Heinlein's "Have Spacesuit, Will
Travel" where they are judging humanity, and if we'd been ruled
against Earth would have been "rotated".
That is "rotated" at 90 degress to normal space-time which would put
Earth in some other dimension/universe/whatever. With no sun.
The idea was "suppose we lost. Earth is out in empty space somewhere
with no sun. What happens?"
It could be used in Traveller via an accident with a new jump drive
prototype. Or an Ancient device. Or whatever.
Be a very *different* situation for the characters.
