What operating system?
What is the hardware?

It might be the screen that is the problem but that would not explain
the reboot problem. Do you have a second screen you could plug in and
test?
Also you might want to download and burn a Linux live disk like
Knoppix (on a friends computer maybe) then boot off that to see if it
is in the software.

Also you said it was new. Is it still under store contract or warenty
so that you can return it?
