I've always thought it funny when people take "advice" from a salesman.
After all, his sole purpose is to get as much money out of you as possible.
His "advice" is no more than sales patter.

To me they've always represented a hunk of carbon treated by great pressure
& heat for millennia...

Or somebody with a lot of money saying "Look how much I'm willing to spend
to impress somebody".  Honestly, for the price some middle class people are
willing to pay for a diamond ring, doesn't furnishing an entire living room
with furniture say "I love you" better?  Or even making a down payment on
that house to live in?  :P
