Slightly different situation, and in any case I would say that the 
information being provided, while slanted towards you buying their 
product, is still useful.

A more common situation is at the retail level. If you go to a store and 
say "I have problem X, what can you sell me that will help me fix it?", 
there's a reasonable chance that the salesman will provide help, and 
they may even be willing to provide a comparison of several different 
products. There's a fair chance that they don't have a lot of useful 
information, of course, but in my experience salespeople are willing to 
comment.
